SANParks Honorary Rangers

The SANParks Honorary Rangers are the official volunteer organisation of SANParks and operate across all National Parks in South Africa. We are a national organisation with 31 regions and over 2,500 volunteer members who work across all of South Africa’s national parks from Kruger to the Kgalagadi and Table Mountain National Park.

The Table Mountain Region of the SANParks Honorary Rangers are a very committed group of responsible Cape Town citizens from all walks of life who are committed to work alongside our partner and colleagues in Table Mountain National Park to conserve and protect this amazing National Park which is like a jewel that we all love and cherish.

Some examples of the type of work that the Honorary Rangers of Table Mountain Region do:

  • If you love hiking on Table Mountain you may have noticed that a number of the footpaths have recently received a bit of a make-over. We have over the last 4 years participated as a key partner in a project which has seen the rehabilitation of over 85km of the key mountain foot paths. We have also replaced many of the boardwalks on Table Mountain
  • Those who have hiked Lion’s Head will know all about the chains and ladders leading to the top and will probably know that they too have recently been replaced. In this case we left the work to the specialists but we as Honorary Rangers provided the funds to have these new chains and ladders thereby making this heavily used route much more safe
  • We also participate in a range of Marine duties and provide support to the TMNP Marine Unit and we sponsor scientific work such as the much needed surveys of the Robben Island Marine Protected Area.
