The K-WAY Platteklip Charity Challenge 2012 is all set to go on the 21st April. This is the fourth 'running' of this event and it is going to be bigger and bettter than last year. We are only accepting 100 entrants so if you want to do it, hurry up and register.
Fast Facts for the event
Minimum summits: FOUR - last year it was 5, but many did not make it.
Route: You are going to see how many times you can summit Table Mountain up Platteklip Gorge. The route takes you from the lower cable station, along Tafelberg road, up Platteklip Gorge and across the table to the upper cable station. You then get a free lift down in the cable car and you start again. The distance is 5.5km and is 760m of climbing, and should take you approximately 1.5hrs on average. You need to be fit and strong or you will not make it.
Minimum sponsorship: R2000.00* - you need to raise at least R2000.00 for the Charity. *It is not difficult to get sponsorship if you are computer literate. It is as simple as emailing your friends and family and directing them to a link on our web page where they can sponsor you per lap. Last year some athlete's raised up to R50 000.00 each. People can sponsor you a minimum of R100.00. The reason for the minimum sponsorship is that there are many hard costs involved with staging this event and you also get a lot of goodies for free. You can also sponsor yourself to top up your account before the event.
Entry Fee: Nothing - unless you don't make the minimum sponsorship, then you will have to make up the difference.
Support: The organisers of the K-Way Platteklip Charity Challenge will provide all nutritional and medical requirements on the day.
Date: 21st of April 2012 You need to be available on both dates should it be too windy to host the event on the Saturday, we will run on the Sunday - The cable car does not run in gale force conditions.
The Charity: The Charity this year is Sinenjongo High School in Joe Slovo Park, Milnerton. It serves an extremely impoverished community which has a high unemployment rate and a large number of children run families. Due to its location close to upmarket areas, it is rated by the Western Cape Education Department as a Quintele 4 school requiring learners pay school fees to help cover the cost of running the school. However very few of the learners can afford the R250 a year school fees. More here
