Webber Wentzel PLATTEKLIP Charity Challenge
The Event
On the 9th of April 2011, roughly 100 intrepid adventurers will attempt to summit Table Mountain as many times as is possible, between sunrise and sunset, to raise money for Aids affected, vulnerable and orphaned children.
This is a tough event for the participants!
Each lap:
- Is 5.5km in distance
- Has 760 metres of climbing
- Includes more than 800 double size steps over a distance of 2.1km ( Up Platteklip Gorge )
- Will take approximately 1 – 2 hrs depending on the person’s fitness.
The Causes
Donations raised over the past 4 years by Argusx2, Charity Challenge (2009) funded the grassroots Masikulisane Crèche with running costs, building extensions, resources and capacity building. We are pleased to announce that the Creche became registered with Social Development as an Educare Centre in late 2009 and as of October 2010 began receiving a monthly government subsidy and now brought to a place of greater sustainability. See www.aidsresourcecentre.org.za for crèche details and photo gallery.
Last year we raised R500 000.00 which is currently being spent on crèches in the Kosovo/Samora Machel area. We are providing resources and installing classrooms, floors, ceilings, toilets, jungle gyms and anything else that will make the children have a happier day at crèche. These project are co-ordinated by Niki Kuys from the Aids Resource Centre. She can be contacted on 082 899 9591 if you have any questions.
This year we will depart from tradition. 10% of the funds raised will be donated to the Wilderness Search and Rescue which incorporates Table Mountain Rescue. As the organisers, we want to ensure that the mountain and the facilities have sufficient resources to sustain our annual event. Wilderness Search and Rescue provides invaluable, life saving rescue services to people who are injured on the mountain. This not for profit organization may one day come to your assistance. Participate
Get off the couch and up Platteklip, over and over again. Be the person to make a difference and show what you can do for charity.
Entry details:
Entries are now closed for 2011.
Teams:
Teams are teams of 2, doing a combined total of a minimum of 8 laps in total.
Teams may do it together or in a relay format. The benefit of doing it in a team is that if you would like do the event, but do not want to do 5 laps you can negotiate with your fitter team member to do the greater amount of the 8 laps. I.E Paul does 3 laps and Peter does 5 laps.
Sponsors
We urge you to sponsor our contestants generously. In this 'credit crunch' year, corporate sponsors are hard to find, so we need individuals to give handsomely.
All donations are tax deductable as the funds are being managed by the Aids Resource Centre. The funds are 'ring fenced' for the Aids affected, vulnerable and orphaned children. Neither the organizers or anyone helping this event have access to the funds. This means you can be safe in the knowledge that all your money is going to a good cause.
If you are a corporate that would like to get involved, please contact us using the contact page. We have banner space on the website for all generous sponsors!
We are also looking for all kinds of sponsorship required for a sporting event, such as Lanyards, liquid refreshments etc.
